Grow, Cook and Share

Running from January 2010 until December 2013 the project aims to increase domestic consumption of fruit and vegetables by integrating school, community - and home-based vegetable gardening with cookery training and a local distribution scheme. It will operate in Craven Arms and Ludlow East.

Starting with support to existing gardening and cookery clubs in the primary schools, we will engage the wider community through links with parents and grandparents. Community gardens will be developed or established and help given to householders wanting to grow food at home, or to 'swap' gardens. Cookery training including preserving skills will be given in schools, homes and community centre kitchens using seasonal produce from gardens and local growers. Wider community access to this produce will be organised using the schools and community centres as distribution points for surplus garden produce and bulk purchases of local seasonal fruit and vegetables.

The three primary schools, two community centres and a resource centre are formal partners in this bid, together with Ludlow 21, South Shropshire Housing Association and Craven Arms Community Food, the lead organizations.
